EMAT - What is That?

EMAT (European Multi-ethnic Alliance of Tucson, Inc.) is an umbrella organization for twenty European ethnic clubs. EMAT is a non-profit, non political, educational organization which provides support, fosters interaction, good will, and strength among European ethnic clubs and organizations. The primary goal is to produce greater community awareness, increased participation, and stronger representation for ethnic activities.

Representatives for each European club attend monthly meetings where upcoming activities are planned, and information given to the clubs concerning topics such as insurance, program ideas, suggested meeting places, how to contact International Students at the U of A, and other related topics.

For thirteen years, EMAT has sponsored a New Year's Eve Dance at the Doubletree Hotel. Profits from the dance enable us to conduct activities such as: two EMAT Fairs, held each year, where clubs have information tables and also sell crafts and/ or food at a local mall; participation in the St. Patrick's Day Parade; our Educational Exhibit with pictures, flags, etc. of each of our clubs, which is now touring schools and libraries; and a Resource Guide and Directory listing our ethnic clubs, giving information about each. The directory has been mailed to places in Tucson which might have inquiries about European clubs.
