We have had 17 presidents. At least a dozen members were born in Finland and speak Finnish. Our members are from all walks of life, many retired now: business people, homemakers, engineers, teachers, artists, doctors, lawyers, and computer specialists among us. Many came from other states.

Affiliations: We belong to the Finland Society in Finland,  FinnFest USA, Finlandia Foundation, and EMAT (European Multi-ethnic Alliance of Tucson) in Tucson. We donate to Salolampi Finnish Language Village and have a scholarship program for it. We also donate to Finlandia University in Hancock, Michigan, and to the Finnish Heritage Foundation at that institution.

History: The Finnish
merican Club of Tucson
was established in 1966 by
a group of “snowbirds” from
Michigan and Minnesota and at
least two mining families who in the
‘20s found their way from Butte, Montana
via California to Bisbee, Arizona mines, and eventually to Tucson some years later. Interesting mining history, including the strike and Deportation of 1917 can be found in the Arizona Historical  Society’s files.

Purpose: We are a club of over 100 members who have established an annual schedule of meetings and events based on its constitution that states the purpose of the Club to be,  “To provide appropriate programs and events for the enlightenment and entertainment of its members while also providing opportunities for the general public to gain broader knowledge and better understanding of the Finnish culture and society.”  (See schedule of events at the end.)
Info
Our Newsletter - four times a year - informs us of Club happenings, keeps us updated with the Finnish American news around the country, as well as informs us about major events in Finland.

For nearly thirty years we participated in Tucson Meet Yourself, a multi-ethnic fair, baking and selling Finnish foods as a fundraiser. Nowadays we participate in the EMAT FAIR in March, distributing information on Finland, the Finnish America and our local club. We sell Finnish American literature and other items.
