German Heritage Klub, Inc.

Meets: 1st Tuesday of each month year-round.

The Klub sponsors a Volkssport Group.  Walks are scheduled year-round. For information,  check  the web page:

The GHK contributes funds to the U/A Dept. of German for students to further their study in Germany or in Taos, NM. It also contributes food and money to the Community Food Bank. The Klub has a booth at Tucson Meet Yourself in October where the traditional bratwurst & sauerkraut are sold. It is a member of the European Multi-ethnic Alliance of Tucson, which headed up this project. Klub activities include picnics, Gaslight Theatre, annual Christmas party and others suggested by members.

Early 1900’s - German Heritage Klub, Inc.

Robert  W. F. Schmidt laid the groundwork for Tucson’s airport becoming the jetport it is today.  He helped attraact industry to airport authority land, including Grand Central Aircraft, Douglas Aircraft, Hughes Aircraft, Samsonite and Hamilton Aviation.  He promoted the city along with the airport.  “As Tucson goes, so goes the airport”.   He died about 1985.

Arthur Garfied Schnabel was a much loved physician for 20 years and a member of the state board of examiners as well as president of staff at St. Mary’s Hospital. He died in 1927. 

Dr. H. A. Schnell & Dr. Clara M. Schnell were leading optometrists and opticians for 24 years in Tucson.  Clara was the first and only lady optometrist for many years.

Carlos E. Ronstadt: 8/25/1903 – D: 3/1972.  A rancher and civic leader who served on many boards. Graduated from U of A in 1935. Helped found Frozen Food Locker and was active in fight against hoof & mouth disease in cattle. Grandson of Frederick A. Ronstadt who came from Hamburg, Germany.

Edward Ronstadt, native Tucson, born 4/12/16-11/2001. Worked in Ronstadt Hardware Store founded by father. Very active in Boy Scouting and headed Scout Council of 6 districts, about 5,000 scouts.  He was family historian.
