| He was considered the sacred music mentor for Tucson and Southern Arizona, and served as consultant on new pipe organs for several Tucson churches. He had served as organist at Catalina Methodist, Trinity Presbyterian and Northminster Presbyterian Churches. At the University he chaired dozens of committees. He worked tirelessly in the design and construction of the 33-rank Isabelle Harris Organ for Holsclaw Hall at the University and performed the dedicatory recital on October 30, 1994. He was also an active member of the Swedish Vasa Lodge.
Swede Johnson was a former Vice President of the University of Arizona and prominent educator. The University of Arizona Alumni Building was named in his honor. Present Day Prominent Swedish Tucson Residents Kerstin Block was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Kerstin studied Anthropology at the University of Arizona. In 1974, she established a clothing exchange store and named it Buffalo Exchange. Today, Buffalo Exchange has grown to 24 stores in 7 western states. Kerstin has served as a board member on the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona and has served as a trustee for the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum. In 1994, Buffalo Exchange established the Buffalo Exchange Arts Award. Kerstin is an active member of the Tucson Vasa Lodge. Warren H. Anderson, a well-known Tucson artist, studied art in the Midwest and received a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He taught art at the University of Arizona for 30 years from the 1960's to the 1980s. Many of his art pieces documented icons of roadside Americana that have been rapidly disappearing. His exhibitions include U of A, El Paso, Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego, and Los Angeles Neon Museum of Art. His art can be seen in the Hirshorn Collection and those of the Phoenix, Tucson, and The University of Arizona Art Museums. |

| Roy Johnson was born of Swedish parentage in Chicago, Illinois. He was professor of organ at the University of Arizona for 29 years. A world-class concert organist who performed on many of the major instruments of Europe, Dr. Johnson touched the lives of thousands with his music and had a profound impact on the many hundreds of University students he taught (organ, music theory, counterpoint, organ pedagogy and literature) and guided as Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Music. |
